{"id":9817,"date":"2008-10-19T23:27:58","date_gmt":"2008-10-20T03:27:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ewm.com\/internalblog\/?p=9817"},"modified":"2008-10-19T23:27:58","modified_gmt":"2008-10-20T03:27:58","slug":"90-day-challenge-day-13-the-email-changeover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.myewm.com\/?p=9817","title":{"rendered":"90 Day Challenge &#8211; Day 13 &#8211;  The email changeover"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote cite=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/support\/osfamily\/\"><p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"margin-left: 20px;margin-right: 20px\" src=\"http:\/\/images.apple.com\/support\/_images\/nav_m_mail.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"58\" height=\"60\" \/><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We are upgrading our email server to Microsoft Exchange Server overnight on Monday, October 20, 2008.\u00a0 This is a real upgrade and you all will really enjoy all of the new features.\u00a0 Here are some answers to help you along in the transition.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What about the timing?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>We will be switching over on Monday, October 20, 2008.\u00a0 You may notice an overall outage as the domains switch over , but nothing will be lost \u2013 it may just be delayed.<br \/>\n<em><strong><br \/>\nDo I have to change anything on my computer?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you access your email through the internet \u2013 you will still go to mail.ewm.com.\u00a0 The log in screen may look a little different, but your username is your full email address \u2013 lastname.firstinitial@ewm.com.\u00a0 You will need to change your password when you first log in.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.myewm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/files\/2008\/10\/newmail.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9818\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.myewm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/files\/2008\/10\/newmail.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"296\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you use outlook on a personal computer or cell phone, your settings will need to be modified slightly.\u00a0 Anywhere where you see just your lastname.firstinitial you will need to add @ewm.com. (unless you are staff\u2026 more about that later) After we get settled into the new system you might want to change your current settings on your computer or phone to fully sync with Exchange so that your contacts and calendar will sync as well, but for now let\u2019s just focus on the email component.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Will all my mail appear in my old mailbox?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Your last 6 months of email will port over to the new system.\u00a0 Not to worry, we will leave your existing mailbox in place for 30 days or so.\u00a0 You can find your old mail at oldmail.ewm.com.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What about my contacts?<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nAs I understand it your contacts will be porting over to the new system.\u00a0 If for some reason, this does not happen we will teach you how to export them out of the old mail into the new email system.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What about my mail folders?<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nYou will need to set up new folders, they will not migrate over.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What about my forwarding info?<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nYou will need to set up new forwarding information in the new system.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What\u2019s different for staff?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Since the staff is already on an exchange server, your settings will change.\u00a0 IT will help you connect to outlook, in the meantime , you can access your email through the website mail.ewm.com \u2013 log in as you always have and use the mail that way until we can get the settings changed on your computer.<\/p>\n<p>Your cell phones will need to be changed as well.\u00a0 IT will help you through that too.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>How do I get all of my old mail ?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Do this before the changeover:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most windows PC\u2019s come with Outlook or Outlook Express.\u00a0 Follow these simple steps which should apply to most mail programs.:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Open Outlook<br \/>\n2.\u00a0 select the Tools menu<br \/>\n3.\u00a0 select accounts<br \/>\n4.\u00a0 add new account \u2013 You might want to call this OLD EWM Mail<br \/>\n5.\u00a0 you will be prompted to add things like you email address and password -do so<br \/>\n6.\u00a0 at some point you will need this info:<\/p>\n<p>Incoming mail server: mail.ewm.com<br \/>\nOutgoing mail server : mail.ewm.com<\/p>\n<p>Type of account IMAP (as opposed to POP3)<\/p>\n<p>it should connect and download.\u00a0 The first time may take a while because you are downloading the entire box.<\/p>\n<p>You may then archive off your mail by following the instructional video.\u00a0 If you use Outook express, just Choose the file menu and then Folder and then Compact all files.<\/p>\n<p>If you use a MAC, all MACS come with Mail.\u00a0 The instructions are basically the same, under the file menu chose Add account and the prompts are as described above.\u00a0 To archive, go to the mailbox tab and select Archive Mailbox.<\/p>\n<p>After the changeover \u2013 you go through the exact same steps to set up the new account.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some videos to help you along:<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to set up an email account in Outlook:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[googlevideo]http:\/\/video.google.com\/videoplay?docid=-2338744888376587750&amp;ei=9Gj7SM_aJJCYrAKhtozrDg&amp;q=setting++mail+accounts+in+outlook&amp;hl=en[\/googlevideo]<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to set up an email account in Outlook Express:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[googlevideo]http:\/\/video.google.com\/videoplay?docid=6419125243786740806&amp;ei=3fH7SP6EKZycrAK1xpSbBQ&amp;q=setting++mail+accounts+in+outlook+express&amp;hl=en[\/googlevideo]<\/p>\n<p>Looking for a new mail application?\u00a0 Try <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/en-US\/thunderbird\/\" target=\"_blank\">Thunderbird<\/a>.\u00a0 Good Luck and we will keep you posted along the way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are upgrading our email server to Microsoft Exchange Server overnight on Monday, October 20, 2008.\u00a0 This is a real upgrade and you all will really enjoy all of the new features.\u00a0 Here are some answers to help you along in the transition.
