Will MLXchange be compatible with Macintosh computers?

I’m a new realtor with EWM and a Mac enthusiast transitioning to the world of real estate. There is only one thing that require me descending into the Windows world, accessing the MLS. MLS requires IE6, and there’s simply no IE6 for current Mac users. Microsoft is saying that they can’t do as good of a job as Apple of integrating the browser with the MacOS as a a reason they halted development of Internet Explorer. I find it unbelievable that in this day and age, when Firefox now claims almost 30% of browser uses and Apple has doubled its laptop marketshare to 12 percent, that web sites still are specifically designed to work in only one environment (Internet Explorer). The MLS is the backbone to all Real Estate offices and it could be even a greater tool if it could be used on other web browsers such as Firefox, Opera or Safari. Your participation to explore the options or experiences using apple bootcamp will be really welcome!

I feel your pain! When MLXChange was about to launch I was so excited only to have my balloon burst to find out it could only be used with Internet Explorer. In this day and age I found and still find it amazing that this is still the case. I blogged the other day that I was so happy to be able to blog from my Mac and got a reply from a fellow Mac user (name escapes me now) that he uses Parallels on his Mac and it seems to be working OK. I haven’t ventured there or to Bootcamp yet – but I’m getting close – still reading articles about the best way to do this. There’s a few things out there I wish I could do from my Mac – i.e. some of the email flyer sites only work from a PC, also, Marketing Max doesn’t like me doing stuff from my Mac either! Good luck – one day it’ll all work out!

I just checked Michael P. Schnabel comment on August 23rd, and as he says, hopefully Safari or Firefox will be able to run Active X before the MLS moves to an open platform such as Firefox. Whichever comes first will be great!.. it’s also nice to know that running paralells Desktop actually does the trick to run IE in order to use MLS for those who have intel chips in their machines.. I have the last generation of Powerbook G4 (1.67Ghz) that I happily use to design marketing pieces and product development material and can patiently wait until the new OX Leopard arrives in October to upgrade to the latest laptops.

Hi everyone. You have three choices when it comes to running Windows on a MAC.

We ave been using Parallels and it works very well. Remember that in addition to the expense of buying Paralells you also need a Windows License.

Fusion is relatively new, however, the reviews put it right next to Paralells. You also nee dto have a Windows License in addition to buying Fusion.

This one is the least practical for me since you do not have the option to run Windows next to OS X. You either run Mac OS X or Windows, one at a time. That said, when the final version is release with Lopard later in October 2007, rumor has it this might change.

Keep in mind the next generation will allow you to run Internet Explorer by itself without running Windows. The company that is pioneering this is Codeweavers: http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/
Currently they are working on IE7.

    Easy Zoom tip in OSX

Sometimes I need an easy and quick way to zoom. I Usually use this accessibility tool in OS X when I’m outputting to my TV to access the computer from my couch with a wireless keyboard. Simply hit [Command+Option+(Plus-sign)] to zoom in. Instantly your screen will zoom in about 25%.

    To zoom out, hit [Command+Option+(Minus-sign)].

Impress your friends with your quick command key combinations. 🙂
