Word from the Editor

Some of you may wonder why some of your information is missing in your final post or why the post got sent back to draft or published on the internal blog and not the public blog… here are the most common reasons why:

1. Remember blogging is about the information – not about you. Your mother and I want to hear about all of your accomlishments, successes – but the general public does not. Blogging should be writing like you are talking – it is not an advertisement about you and your business, it is not a press release – it is you writing about real estate, local information, etc. If people like what they read – they will contact you. You are building a reputation on line. So, if you see that I eliminate the bragging or send it back to draft – don’t feel put out – I am trying to make you a successful blogger.

2. When you write – remember who you are writing to. We are so conditioned to speak to Realtors that sometimes we forget how to talk to the public. Think about this as you write… if you were at a cocktail party and someone asked you about the topic… how would you answer? With that in mind write – please do not ask for people to call you for showings… bring their clients… or understand what a 2br/2ba is – Realtors can read the MLS – you are looking for your next client – let them know you speak their language! The same thought applies to references to me, Ron, your manager or your office mate. We all know inside of EWM who these people are- but the public doesn’t. If you are going to refer to someone inside of EWM , make sure you specify who they are and why you are mentioning them.

3. As we are getting closer to the public launch, I am getting pickier. We only have 1 opportunity to make a good first impression and I want to put pur collective best foot forward. You may find that I will add a picture, a video, some links or BOLD for better emphasis. You may also find that if you have submitted your post in all bold or caps, I may undo that. Please do not use Microsoft Word and then copy and paste into the blog – it makes a nightmare for the editor.

4. USE the Spellcheck!

5. Looking for good stuff? Read our blog– it is already an amazing resource!

I challenge each and every one of you to write a post this week about something in your market, somthing that you are interested in – or at the very least – one of your listings. You will be surprised at how much fun it is to see your name in google and the comments are a great plus.

I will continue to make my rounds to the blog groups in each office for as long as there is a group of devoted bloggers to come see. My only requirement is to keep up with the group – put up a post each week so that we can all advance to bigger and better blogging.

First time into the blog site for me, but finding it interesting. My co-chair and I, for our 40th high school reunion, Coral Gables High class of 66, created a blog spot. We had an active one for nearly a full year, and only a couple of people used it! I guess that tells me we, of a certain age, still have a way to go when it comes to the technology of the age we now live in!! Pul us along, Beth! We will get there! Thanks!

Beth, thank you so much for the time you have put into teaching us all how to “blog”. Sometime, I would like to know the difference between the categories on the left side of the page. For instance, “Around Town”, “As Heard on the Street” and “Community Information” all sound the same to me. Should I check them all (or none) if I am talking about real estate in Coconut Grove?

Beth, How would I have found your blog spot ? I looked through the items on the right and did not see editor, etc/… Is there a way to specifically look up a certain persons blog spot? It is only through coming back to your previous email that I was able to get to you.

KAren – look under the “manage” tab and then search for authors – find whomever you are looking for and off you go.

Riley – you just gave me the next idea for a post – what categories… coming soon

Patty – Mario’s videos are already on the site – look in category Training – I am waiting to get the Tomatos – should be soon
