THE NEW BREAST PAP TEST

halo.jpgThat’s right ladies, there is a brand new pap test available for breasts. Halo, is a simple 5 minute noninvasive test that can detect abnormal cells YEARS before they can become dangerous.

I was at my Gyn the other day when they advised me of this new test. I was flabbergasted! What great news!

It is not yet covered by insurance but, I was pleasantly surprised to learn, that the test only costs $99. With a price tag like that, there is no excuses. I didn’t have time to have the procedure as I was in a hurry, but I signed up for next month. I asked to see the machine and it looked very harmless, like a fancy breast pump.

There was a woman who had just had the procedure at the reception desk and she was chuckling with the receptionist saying that “…it felt fun, that she would be back tomorrow to try it again!”.

This is great news, please share with all your girlfriends…

It was approved in May 2007, and Aventura OB/Gyn Associates, is the first office in Miami-Dade County to offer the test. It is also available for non-patients and again for $99 there is no excuse.

Vicki, I am not sure why it is only on the Internal Blog? I will have to ask the Blogmaster?

Compared to a mammogram, this test, which I hear is less uncomfortable can detect abnormal cell growth up to 10 years before a mammogram can.

The info sheet says that most breast cancer starts in the milk ducts and this test examines fluid from their to see if there are any signs. If it comes back normal you can continue with your regular breast exams, mammograms and Halo’s. An abnormal test result doesn’t mean you have cancer, but it signify’s that you need to be watched more carefully and maybe have additional tests…

I think it is a great breakthrough.
