Property Virgins

tvI saw this TV show called “Property Virgins” on HGTV this weekend and I like it very much. The show tries to capture the wonderful things realtors do to help their first time home buyers. Of course this is just a TV show so probably not everything you see is the truth but overall it does highlight some of the good things and bad things that can happen in the process of finding that perfect home.couple

The first episode I watched the realtor was helping this adorable young couple buy their first house. They had a budget of around $300K and had a few requirements in mind for their first house. The realtor took all the information, did her research and found some good options for them. She scheduled an appointment and they went to see the houses. The first house they didn’t like but the second house they loved. They continued looking at the other houses but at the end of all tdream househe showings they decided to make an offer on the second house since they liked it so much. They made a low offer and the seller counter offer it. Then they made an counter offer and the seller made another one and at the end they agreed on a price. The buyers were so happy and so grateful. They couldn’t thank their realtor enough for all the hard work and effort she put into finding their “Dream Home”. Gratitude….I love that word!

Then I watched another episode. This time it was a single guy that wanted to buy a house but he wanted to be able to rent a portion of it to help pay the mortgage – so being able to convert into a duplex was key for him. The realtor took all the requirements into consideration and scheduled the showings. The first house turn out to be a little bit more expensive than what he wanted to pay, the second house you couldn’t really convert into a duplex very easily and so on, but the last showing looked like it was the one because it was located in a great neighborhood, was the least expensive and could be converted very easily into a duplex. The buyer went home to analyze his options and take look at his budget one more time but by the time he met up with the realtor again (it’s hard to tell how much time had passed) he had bought the house already without her sad faceknowledge.

When I saw the realtors’ face after she heard the news I could feel her pain and disappointment. Unfortunately things like this can happen sometimes but it does not make it right and wow….I can’t believe the guy had the courage to go on TV. Luckily experiences like this one are the exception.

The majority of our customers are wonderful people that appreciate what we”Realtors” do for them and they usually become a great referral source and a lot of times close friends.
