Coastal Ghost Host Scares Most at the Kehoe Home

A few weeks ago a good friend of mine, Maggie Behar, called me to advise me that she would be spending her 30th wedding anniversary in Savannah, Georgia, and needed to make reservations fairly quickly. She wanted me to call Melody, my daughter, to inquire what she knew about a particular historic inn.

“Maggie, did you say, . . . the Kehoe House?”

“Yes, it’s a bed-n-breakfast. Mauricio and I want to spend several nights there before heading back and staying a couple of nights in St. Augustine.”

“Maggie, I think that the Kehoe House is . . . . haunted. . . .yeah, I think that is the one that Joe Namath had owned at one time.”

“WHAT!!!!!!! WHAT!!!!! *@!@&@* ARE YOU KIDDING ME? HAUNTED? ARE YOU SURE?”

“Calm down. You’re on the Palmetto, for heaven’s sake. What could be scarier than that. Let me call Melody and I’ll get right back to you.”

*************

“Hey, Melody. Maggie called me and said she wanted your opinion on The Kehoe House. I remembered when we took the “hearse” tour that the driver said that home was haunted. Was that a joke?”

“It is haunted. In fact, the clerk will make you sign a waiver or something if you decide to stay there. Something about Rooms 201 and 203. People heard voices and left in the middle of the night and did not pay their bill.”

“I knew it!”

“Tell Maggie to stay there, though. It has great historical significance.”

*************

“Maggie, I was right. That was the one that was haunted, but Melody said for you and Mauricio to go ahead and stay . . . . .”ghost

“WHAT!!!!!!! WHAT!!!!! *@!@&@* ARE YOU KIDDING ME?” I’M NOT STAYING IN SOME HAUNTED HOUSE! I NEED A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP!!!! ARE YOU CRAZY? HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?”

“Maggie, calm down. You’re still on the Palmetto, right? She said to stay there because of the historical significance.”

By this time I was laughing so hard I, well, you know. “Oh, yeah, she said you would have to sign a waiver or something, especially if you stay in Rooms 201 or 203. . . . something about weird voices and people leaving in the middle of the night and not paying their bill.”

“Karen, you have lost your mind. I am not staying there. Ask her to recommend another place. Can you imagine me telling Mauricio he has to sign a waiver? and for what?”

“Maggie, go ahead and stay there, I saw their website. It is a beautiful home. I can’t wait for you to call me afterwards to tell me if you heard or saw something weird.”

I could no longer keep a straight face — I was rolling on the floor.

Needless to say, Maggie made reservations at the Eliza Thompson House.

Pssssssssst! Don’t tell Maggie, but Melody later told me and I researched it: The Eliza Thompson House 5 West Jones Street: Has its share of ghostly sightings, including Confederate soldiers in an upstairs window and a young girl wearing a white dress in the hallway. Ooooppps!
