90 Day Challenge – Day 14 – Tools You Can Use – RSS Subscriptions

Tonight I am taking a break from the email madness that has engulfed us all for the last few days.  I thank you all for your patience and assistance.  Moving that email cheese was a a big deal.  In future challenges we will learn more about the new system and the great features it offers, but for now let’s talk about RSS.

RSS is an acronym for Real Simple Syndication.  Here is a great video to grasp the basic concept…

RSS has tremendous implications for real estate.  The obvious one from watching the video is subscribing to things you like to read – like blogs, news sites, etc.  Think of a magazine or a newspaper subscription, but without paper or mail.  Interested?

There are 2 ways to subscribe to RSS feeds.  The first is via email.  All you need to do is fill in your email address and viola!  any new articles appear in your email box for you to read when you want.  The EWM Blog has just such a box

But not every site has email subscriptions, so you will have to have a feed reader (think online magazine rack) where you can go to read all of your favorites.  A great place to start is

Google Reader.  Here is another video on how to set up the Google Feed Reader.

So now… what to read?  Here are a few of my favorites to add to your new feed reader account:( Just put the name in the Add Subscription box  in the google feed reader and chose the feed)

Real Estate Blogs:

Real Estate Tomato

1000 Watt Blog

Real Estate Coconut

South Beach Condo Blog

EWM Blog

Luxury Portfolio

Technology Blogs:

Gizmodo

Life Hacker

Tech Crunch

Every major newspaper has feeds as well – so try

Miami Herald

Sun Sentinel

New York Times

Wall Street Journal

Amazing how much you can learn just by reading!  Have some favorites you want to share?  Please do.

Okay, Beth- I can’t seem to pinpoint the problem:

When I click on the RSS Feeder button (on the EWM Blog) it gives me a link (feed://www.ewm.com/internalblog/feed) that I have then added to my Google Reader account through the add subscription button.

All fine and dandy, but the reader only gives me blogs between 8/14-8/26/08.

The really wacky part is when I click on the link above, it gives me all the recent blogs- including those you write at almost 4 am!

    Sleep, Beth- for goodness sake!
