I Learned Something New About Facebook!

Did you know that the Facebook we know today was much different just a few years ago? I have been using the online networking site since the beginning, when it was solely for a few and specific Universities. It was created as a way for students to connect and have a few friends established before they even set foot on campus at the start of their freshman year.Slowly the site began to allow other colleges and eventually allowed anyone worldwide over the age of 13 to join.

After 4 years of being part of the Facebook world, I considered myself an expert. Yet in a recent one on one with Karen Ross (thank you!), I learned something new: How to create pages. I was trying to promote an event for the Venetian Coral Gables, and when Karen suggested creating a page, I was excited to learn.

The basic idea is this: you create a “site” for anything you want (within reason) and send it out to whomever you would like. On the page, there are such things as Event Postings, Pictures, and even a wall for people to leave comments on. Once created, anyone who has become a “fan” of the page will be notified anytime something is updated on the page.

This was a great discovery and I am having alot of fun setting it up and getting the word out. Give it a try… it’s great!
