Unprofessional Realtors …

It seems that some Realtors are suffering from a severe case of unprofessionalism, coupled with a bad case of poor customer service.

My latest experience was with a local Miami-Dade Realtors.  I would really enjoy sharing their name’s with everyone, but I am feeling a bit merciful so I won’t.  I had confirmed an appointment for a showing, which my client had rearranged his schedule for, and again I was amazed when the realtor didn’t show up nor had the decency to answer my calls.

It seems that a few realtors in this city are not aware of what professionalism and customer service is all about.  Instead they don’t call to let you know that they are running late (sometimes they are an hour late), nor do they call to let you know if they have decided to cancel the appointment, and to top it all off they don’t return phone calls or emails.

Would you hire these realtors? So now I have to ask why these realtors are in the business.  Obviously they don’t have customer service skills; they just run their business as a kiosk… Realtors who have been in the business for years might understand my point.

As you can imagine my clients aren’t happy and the Realtors continue getting a bad reputation.

I apologize to everyone who has had a bad experience. It just takes one rotten fish to spoil the catch.

Working with Realtors in Broward County is a little bit different than in Miami-Dade. Most of us use the Supra Lockbox and our sellers are usually not at home when the property is being shown. I recommend that you talk with your sellers about using this system, especially since buyers don’t like sellers being in the home at the same time they are. The lockbox is secure and if you use a CBS code you provide extra security.

I agree, Patti. The lockbox never caught on in Dade County and may never (except for vacant homes or foreclosures). I think it is a fear regarding security.

As an agent, I would turn the unprofessionalism around to the positive to sell myself as a listing agent. “When a selling agent sees my name on the MLS sheet, s/he will show my listing because s/he knows I will BREAK MY NECK to get the property shown and will BREAK MY NECK to get the offer properly presented.”

Turn it around and make others’ bad stuff your great stuff. Control what you can control; therefore — LIST.

Listing agents control the market. Listing agents are the most profitable. So, list. If you list it, buyers will come to you.

Amen, George. This happens waaaay too often. You send your buyers or renters a list of several properties to choose from, they select maybe 6 that they absolutely would love to see, and then you can’t get a hold of 5 out of the 6 properties’ listing agent. It’s ridiculous.

It also amazes me how pleasant and different it is when dealing with an EWM Realtor. 99% of the time they are very courteous and will at the very minimum return your phone call and let you know the status on the property and it’s availability.

George: I agree totally!! I have run into realtors lately who are out of town and tell me to wait until they get back instead of leaving somebody in charge of their listings…I am sure the seller is not aware of this lack of interest or they wouldn’t of hired them in the first place!! Frustration after frustration…and when you run into a realtor that is professional and Nice everything flows….!

The problem is that it very easy and very cheap to become a realtor in Florida. To get better quality full time agents in the business, we need to ask the FREC to increase the educational level requirements and increase the cost of maintaining an inactive license.

In North Carolina, they make it very difficult for you to get your and maintain your license. It is a pain, but it keeps a lot of people out of the business should not be in the business.

On another topic, I started using Supra on our listings. The last combination lockbox we installed lasted about 6 hours. I am hoping EWM will become the first company in Miami-Dade to have all listings on E-boxes. I suggested that in one of our Sales Meetings and it received a lot of support. That will secure the property and eliminate this problem of agents giving out the combinations to buyers.

In N Carolina, as Carlos says, you have to be a BROKER–so if you want to sell you must know your stuff.. In addition, appraisers are ONLY allowed to appraise in areas they know well–what a concept!!
We are doing ourselves a disservice by not using the SuPRA lockboxes-(however, I dont have one now either–I did, but gave it up)-any time I get a client from another big city, they are used to them and shocked when I tell them I have to call for appts days in advance and still may never heare back from the agent..Our state needs to weed out the agents who are giving us all a bad name, perhaps by education, for a start..
