Blogging

Ok, so not only am I new to the industry, I’m new to this whole blogging phenomenon that has impacted our company in a very positive way. For me, I find blogging to be very beneficial in giving me a heads up when confronted with certain situations. It also helps me to derive new ideas towards other projects, but most importantly I believe that this form of internal communication will enable EWM to work more cohesively as a team.

We all know knowledge is power, and strength is greater in numbers, so the reason I am writing this blog is to share my opinion and thoughts with you all. I find myself always trying to improve things and make them run more efficiently, but certain situations allow us no control, therefore at times we are only able to offer a suggestion. So here is my mine.

If anyone has a listing posted on our website, please input the square footage and at the very least, post a picture. Now I fully understand exceptions apply to every rule, so if you find it to be more tactful to exclude these items from our website and you want to let the property speak for itself, fine.

Although it doesn’t stop with our website, I run into the same problem on the MLS. To me, that’s mind boggling. We know 2 things in this regard about consumers – that they begin their search for a property on the internet and that they are looking for information. Beth wrote that last sentence and she was absolutely right. Given the inventory, I find it time consuming to search through listings, and I sometimes choose to skip over listings that either A. have no pictures or B. have no info on sq. ft. , and for some strange reason I feel I’m not the only one. I can only imagine how often the public will move onto another listing when not given adequate information for them to not only narrow, but satisfy a search.

So how can a company pride itself on trying to move its own inventory when I know for a fact that a lot of EWM realtors go straight to the MLS…? I don’t blame those who do, they’ve probably become very proficient over the years with it, but don’t you think there’s a possibility that we could actually find more properties to meet our customer’s needs within our own inventory?

I suggest we make our company’s website more efficient so our own agents start their search with it, rather than the MLS. Maybe EWM’s site is kept like this in order for the public to become more dependent upon us and the MLS, who knows? I do know that there is always room for improvement. If we can find ways to make EWM even greater, why not?

We’ve implemented a form of communication that can be heard throughout the entire company. I am sure there are plenty of agents who might have a useful suggestion to share with all of us.

Jordan, I am so glad that you started with such an important topic. Havcing all possible information in alisting is a must but sometimes the tax records do not help. I love in-house deals….we have so much control!
