My first transaction was a memorable one, not only because it was my first, but also on account of the uniqueness of the deal. No one in the office had ever done a coop purchase (coops apparently not too common in S. Florida). Moreover, the buyer was a unilingual Frenchman from Quebec. Actually, it was precisely for my linguistic skills that I came to represent the Buyer; I happened to be the only realtor in the Aventura office who spoke fluent French. The seller’s agent was Scott Patterson, the top producer in our office and, luckily for me, he was there to watch my back throughout the transaction. To cap it off, the buyer had not yet reached the required age of 55, although his mother already owned a unit in the same project.
As it turned out, the buyer never came to Florida until after the closing, everything being handled by phone, fax, and Fed Ex. There was so much to learn and, luckily for me, Scott was able to point me in the right direction when needed.
It was great to receive that first commission check, but it was even better to be part of that transaction, and have the opportunity to work with an outstanding professional.
