A “Realtor” or a “Faketor”?

I decided to finally write my first blog today even though I still do not have a picture on our website and being a new agent to EWM and fairly new in the business I had no idea what topic to write about.

Until today.

I encountered an incident that made me realize two very important things. The first one being the fact that as a Realtor we have chosen a career not just a “job” it is a way of life and we are on 24/7, we do not shut down at 5pm or have weekends that are just spent lounging around. We are working round the clock and everyone is a potential contact. The second is that we have the capability to change peoples lives and help them make one of the biggest decisions in their life, for themselves and their family and if we are “Real”tors we feel good about it and are justly compensated for the countless hours mentioned previously.

I have learned a few things, many of them what NOT to do, as a “real”tor and in my limited experience, these are my chosen few.

1. Do NOT let your phone ring and not answer. Who knows you may have a buyer, seller or an agent on the other line, and who needs those?

2. Do NOT listen, just hear what your sellers need and your buyers want and maybe you can wing it.

3. Do NOT show up late, or better yet do not show up at all!!! That is always a good one.

4. Do NOT proof read any offers or paperwork you are working on. Just trust the other guy knows what they are doing.

5. Do NOT scratch out, write in or just scribble all over a perfectly beautiful contract. After a few times, it all looks like chicken scratch, and that is how you look too.

So even though I am not a top producer and have not sold multi million dollar homes, (yet) I do know that I have chosen to be a “real”tor not a “fake”tor.

    Anabel,
Wonderfully said..unfortunately in our business there are more “fake”tors then “real”tors..if you work hard and steady I am sure you will succeed. Good Luck!

I notice that you usually come in fairly early, always look professional and work as though you are definitely following a plan. You’ll do great! Welcome to EWM!

Great job choosing a topic. Many of us have been in that same situation with “Faketors”. After the day you had Friday, I know it must have felt good to vent. So glad you chose EWM, the “Real” deal!
