EWM Runaround ~ Part 1

A couple of weeks ago I signed up for my first half marathon. I will be running the ING Miami Half Marathon on January 27th. I signed up to train with Team Footworks in South Miami. For all of you wondering . . . a half marathon is 13.1 miles. This is about 8 miles more than I have ever run. The program is 17 weeks long and consists of at least 3 runs a week with Footworks. Monday and Thursdays the runs begin at the Footworks store at 6:30 PM, and Saturday mornings at 6:30 AM at South Miami Hospital.

Last Monday was my first run and I wore a bright pink Junior League T-shirt and thought nothing of it. I ran my 3.8 miles and was pretty proud of myself when I didn’t collapse or pass out along the way. As the week progressed, people asked if I had been running in South Miami in a hot pink t-shirt? I realized that instead of hot pink maybe I should start wearing a bright red EWM shirt. You never know what kind of buzz one red t-shirt might make. Maybe just a little, but in today’s market every little bit of cheerleading matters. I just might be running with your next client who had to inquire about our services when they were up and running 10 miles with me at 6:30 AM. Keep you eyes out for a Red EWM shirt campaigning/running through South Miami for the next 17 weeks.

That’s great Nicole! I’ve run two half marathons with Footworks and loved it! You will meet lots of nice people and I actually got two sales out of it when I joined. Good luck and have fun!!

It takes a lot of courage and strength to run a half marathon. Be very wise and careful.
From a runner to an other, it can be very dangerous to run early in the morning or late at night.
I ran in San Fransico for a year starting a 5:45 am, never worring about my own safty until one day, while listening to the news on my walkman I heard that a young woman had been murdered in one of the parks, she had been running every days for years, and took the same route, well, we can always say that God will protect us, but as human been we need to be careful with the life that has been given to us.
So keep on running, but be very careful.
Also, I hope that you will get some clients, to reward your efforts!

I am sure you will be safe in a group but if you’re training, please do take the safety issue to heart. I was knocked down once and clipped once by cars who took off at stop signs even after I made eye contact with the drivers. Now I go around them no matter what. I was also chased by a car full of guys. They drove by too slow and I trusted my instincts and ran for my life before they realized I had taken off. When they double back looking for me I could hear them but thankfully I was out of sight and moving fast LOL. Also, I had that stalker who tried to figure out where I lived by following me on my way home from running. If your spidey sense is tingling, don’t dismiss it. Call for help. Better safe than sorry. Better distrustful than gullible. Hope your time is really great!
