My Dear EWM family,
I am writing to you about my sister, Karen. This is not easy for me, but I know that if I don’t reach out, I could miss an opportunity to help her.
My sister, my only sibling is a kind, compassionate, wonderful person who strives every day to be the best she can be and I love her dearly. We are only a year and nine days apart and we have always been close.
Karen suffers from kidney failure and although she has controlled it over the last 10 years through a strict diet, that is no longer possible. She needs a kidney. I immediately volunteered and was devastated when I was informed I cannot be her donor. Many family members have also volunteered, but they are not compatible either due to their age or pre-existing physical conditions. l am now on a mission to find her a living kidney donor.
Becoming a living donor is a straightforward process… First and most important, you can live a long healthy life with one kidney. The procedure is relatively noninvasive and the recovery time is minimal.
All medical expenses are covered by her insurance. The testing and procedure is done at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial.
