The Back Porch – Antiquing in Richmond Hill, Georgia – Customer Service with a Smile!

Wonderful things happen when you go antiquing. You get a feel, smell and touch of the past.mother’s cabinet You can bring a piece of Georgia back to Florida!

One of my favorite places to visit when I cross over the Florida-Georgia line is The Back Porch Antiques.

Darlene and NikkiMs. Darlene Carpenter and her poodle Nikki will greet you with a smile and talk to you about what’s happening in the area. She also is quite knowledgeable about home decorating – Southern style. Ms. Carpenter is a native and is called upon whenever someone has passed on to sell the antiques left behind.

The image to the right is a piece my mother bought from Ms. Darlene. My sister accidentally hung the mirror upside down (it is supposed to be attached to the furniture), but I have to tell you, with the vine cascading across the top, this makes for an interesting conversation piece. Of course, when I brought this up to my daughter, she said — “Don’t bring it up – that’s a sore subject.”

I bought a beautiful, petite old rocking chair that somehow never made it back to Weston. It has found a permanent home at the 1900’s antique architect’s desk in my daughter’s living room from you guessed it — The Back Porch.

I purchased a 110 year old fireplace mantel from Darlene which was taken from a home that was knocked down in Sylvania, Georgia. Unfortunately, it sits in my garage. I don’t even have a fireplace.

Located 8.4 miles from Highway 17 (Coastal Highway) in Richmond Hill, Georgia (near Savannah), on a beautiful piece of real estate sits The Back Porch. Whenever I visit my daughter, we visit Darlene. My daughter’s chant on the way there is, “I will not buy anything. I will not buy anything. I will NOT buy anything!” Forget it. The chant does not work.

Since Ms. Carpenter does not have a website, I promised to put her information on the internet on the EWM blog.

By the way, if you happen to head north, stop by this wonderful place. Bring you SUV or pickup truck. You’ll need it, and — please tell her you found her on the EWM blog!
