Wolves – A Story of Struggle & Choice

A friend told me a story a couple of weeks ago and I can’t get it out of my head. Actually, I don’t want to. It carries a great lesson for me — one I need and can use on a daily basis. Maybe you’ll find it helpful as well.

wolves

An elderly Cherokee was teaching his grandchildren about life…
He said to them, “A fight is going on inside of me.” It is a terrible
fight, and it is between two wolves.

One wolf is evil—he is fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed,
arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride,
competition, superiority, and ego.

The other is good— he is joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity,
hunility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth,
compassion, patience and faith.

The same fight is going on inside every other person.

His grandchildren thought about this for a minute, then one child asked,
“which wolf will win, Grandfather?”

The old Cherokee replied softly, “The one you feed.”

You know that is so true.
We do have a choise to what we will do and how we will act or react to things that are sent our ways each and every day.
I like to believe that God is in control of my life, and that he gives me the freedom to choose what I will do with the blessings that he gives me every day.
Even if we don’t believe in God, we still have a choice to make to do what is right for the commun good of everyone that we come in contact with.
Thank you for sharing this proverb with us.
