Property tax amendment #1 – January 29,2008 Ballot

You may have received during this first week of the year, mailing from powerful interests groups who are campaigning against the amendment 1 Property tax. They are using fear to connect with the voters. They argue the possibility of cutting in safety and emergency services in Florida as a result of this property tax amendment. I wonder how they used to work 5 years ago when their budget was not inflated by the boom in taxes of the last 5 years.

If you are in favor of the amendment 1, I would suggest you do your part in defending it. If not, there is the risk that things will continue the way they are, with no relief for nobody at all ( just a few interest groups).

Send an email to your customer base, family and friends, with an explanation like the one in the Broward Appraiser web site www.bcpa.net marking some points like the increase to $50,000 on the Homestead exemption, the portability of our save our homes benefits and the preservation of the current 3% cap on SOH.

Good Luck and happy campaigning!!!

Hi Felix, thanks for the post! While I feel that the Amendment doesn’t go as far as many of us would like, I’ll definitely be voting for it and encouraging others to do so because I think it’s at least a good start in the right direction.

Felix, I’ve been contacting everybody that I know and suggesting that they vote FOR amendment 1. It’s not like the change will help me as an investor, but it WILL help my customers who have had a desire to move!! I always say that if you receive a small gift now it’s much better than dreaming about the huge gift that you might receive someday!! Thank you for your blog. Marty S 🙂
