90 Day Challenge – Day 32 – Just for Fun – Using Your Computer for Entertainment

I can’t believe we are Day 32 of the Challenge already.  So far we have over 300 people that have signed up by email to take the challenge and more just following along on the blog.  Thanks to so many of you who have already emailed or commented with great enthusiasm about your new phone, application, photo tips or just to tell me how much you are learning.

Even though I do try to put a little fun into each day of the challenge, sometimes we just need to rest our brains and do something that is 100% entertaining or fun.  So today’s challenge is to learn some neat sites that will allow you to see your computer as something other than a work and research tool.

Using your computer to watch TV. Not long from now it seems fairly likely that at home your TV and computer will be all in one device.  Until then, if you are away from the TV while you are searching MLS,  at an open house on a rainy day or just just missed one of your favorite shows while presenting that contract –  you might be interested in some of the TV content which is now available on the internet.    Here are some fully legal internet sites to catch up on TV or Movies for free.

Hulu.com – Just last month there was an internet first.  Hulu.com did a live streaming format of the Presidential debate on the internet.  Hulu has all of the current NBC/Universal shows that you can watch any time you want.  They recently added some great vintage shows like Mary Tyler Moore and Hill Street Blues.  You can also find some great movies on Hulu as well.  You can even watch in HD (High Definition). If you sign in and become a user you can subscribe to your favorite shows and Hulu will email you every time there is a new episode or will hold them in queue for you to watch whenever you go to the site.

Joost.com – Similar to Hulu – Joost hosts content from CBS, Comedy Central and the WB.

Of course all of the major networks have their own sites as well as many of the local news stations.  Here is a short list:

Many of the sites now offer the embed code for missed video or news clips that you might want to include in your next blog post or in a  sidebar on your website.

Find Internet TV – gives you a TV Guide version of what is playing right now live on the Internet

Boxee.tv – The newest addtion to the internet TV lineup which has assembled all channels in one spot.  Currently in alpha testing – Boxee will be huge!  The tech blogs are all buzzing about boxee.  I am anxiously awaiting my invitation to be a beta tester.  I will let you know how it all works out.

I also hear that YouTube is testing full length TV and Movie videos.

Meanwhile, if you are looking for background music while you plug away at that CMA, check out

  • AOL Radio – great selection of radio channels with an iPhone application as well.
  • Live365 Internet Radio Thousands of stations – all for free.  You can join to get rid of the commercials if you like.
  • Pandora radio – Pandora has radio stations like the other two, but with a different twist.  You can all up and artist you like and it will play songs only from that artist.  Again, all for free. Pandora has an iPhone app as well.

So, whether you have missed that favorite TV show, are looking for a movie to watch or just want some music to work by, you need look no further that your own computer.  What’s that you say – no computer?  That’s for Day 32 – some computers you might want to put on your wish list.

I’m off to catch up on my TV watching.

Great, I just purchased a bigger memory card for my Blackberry, but the one I really need is a bigger memory card for my brain, before it explodes!
