A number of Realtors in Florida have received an email saying that a U.S. “Cap and Trade” bill passed by the U.S. House last year requires a license or retrofit by property owners who want to sell their home.
However, it’s not true.
The allegation refers to the American Clean Energy and Security Act (HR 2454) passed by the U.S. House last year. And while false, it’s not new. A similar campaign of misinformation circulated in July 2009, and the embers of that misinformation seem to have reignited http://www.floridarealtors.org/NewsAndEvents/n2-070209.cfm
The National Association of Realtors® has posted a set of fact sheets and information about H.R. 2454 on its website, realtor.org, at: http://www.realtor.org/government_affairs/gapublic/american_clean_energy_security_act
NAR asks members who receive this email not to forward it. Instead, refer the sender to NAR’s website for the actual information.
