Property Tax Confusion!

Are you confused by the recent passed legislation or wonder why we are voting on a constitutional amendment in January? If you don’t know, you are not alone. Join us on Wednesday, August 29th at 10:00 am, and learn the answers to these questions and much more! Danielle Blake, Vice President Governmental Affairs of the Realtor Association of Greater Miami and The Beaches will explain what the amendment means to both residential and commercial property owners.

The meeting will be held at the University Holiday Inn, 1350 S. Dixie Hwy., Coral Gables at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 29, 2007.

In a recent update from FAR, it was noted that 58% of the voters are in favor of the amendment, 2% shy of the 60% needed to pass the amendment. To read the FAR update in it’s entirety click on the link. http://www.floridarealtors.org/NewsAndEvents/n1-082207.cfm

    Debra,
I heard Marco Rubio speak on this tax issue about a month ago and he had a good point in that he used a lottery analogy to explain why voters should vote for it eventhough it is not a cure all and in some cases, like commercial properties and second homes it does not go far enough. His analogy was as follows: If you play lotto often and are lucky enough to win the $1 million jack pot, you don’t say to the state, “No thanks. I want it to roll over until it hits $20 million and win that”. He said this amendment is a significant tax break for home owners and we should not give it back just because we want something bigger and better. He suggested that if this gets passed, then the legislature can work on additional tax issues.

    Joan – Thank you

Helen – Thank you. Hopefully I can keep up the pace.

Maggie – Thank you. The meeting on Wednesday should clear up the confusion.

Jennifer – I was at FAR this weekend and Marco Rubio was supposed to speak. I would have loved to have heard him however, his wife went into labor and he was unable to attend. I like his analogy.
