90 Day Challenge – Day 21- Tools You Can Use- iGoogle Homepage and Google Docs And Spreadsheets

It’s time to learn another Google Trick or two.  Have you wondered how we have been sharing spreadsheets over the internet without emailing?  Here is a quick look at iGoogle and Google Docs and Spreadsheets.

The igoogle Homepage

The igoogle page is another freebie. Since most of the websites today have information that is alive and morphing (such as the EWM.com website with its blog component), there is an ever-increasing need to pool that information into one arena — like the front page of the newspaper.  By now you heard the term “RSS feed” (Real Simple Syndication) – that funny orange “feed” button on different sites actually means something.

Have you opened a Google account?  Contrary to what was stated in the previous video, I opened an account with my current e-mail address.  If you do open a Google e-mail account (g-mail), it can appear as one of your gadgets on your igoogle homepage.  Have you set up your igoogle page?

Here is how you add EWM’s public blog feed to your igoogle homepage. Now you will know when your post has been published.

Challenge:  Set it up.  Add stuff.  Daily peruse your headlines.  Stay informed.

Google Docs and Spreadsheet

Since you have already set up your google account, upload documents into you google docs account.

Google Docs:

Share the documents with others, either as collaborators or viewers. Collaborators may make additions or deletions to your document.  Viewers may only view your document.

Perhaps you are wondering, how do I know the history of these documents if I allow others to “collaborate?”

Google Spreadsheets:

This is fascinating.  This is not your mama’s spreadsheet.

As you have imported documents and spreadsheets, you may now want to export them:

In a future post, we will embed your “google” spreadsheet into your blog post.

____________

I am extremely impressed with the Google philosophy — the “Ten Things” what this company believes might well be adopted by many.
